Spring is just around the corner and it means – it’s fertilizers O’Clock. Most of the time soils do not provide ideal growing conditions for your plants right away and that is why application of specific nutrition’s is a common practice in horticulture.

What are fertilizers? Role of fertilizers.

Fertilizers are the components that increase plant productivity and development. With the help of fertilizers, plants become resilient against harmful plant pathogens, pests, and weeds. Elimination of diseases in plants increases the value in the harvest. Without fertilizers, nature struggles to replenish the necessary amount of nutrients in the soil.

Often, when talking about fertilizers, amendments are mentioned too and even more often these 2 are being mixed up. But these two are different things – one is designed to improve the soil, and the other – to feed plants. So, what is the difference?

Soil amendments:

organic or nonorganic material;

can include animal worm castings, perlite, straw, grass clippings, greensand, gypsum, hay, cover crops, or other materials;

improves the physical properties of the soil, such as water retention, permeability, water infiltration, drainage, aeration, and texture;

main goal – provide a better environment for roots.

Fertilizers:

concentrated chemical or organic nutrients;

food for plant – supply nutrients such as nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorous;

main goal – to stimulate plant growth and improve plant quality;

do not help to improve a soils structure.

By learning the difference between these two types of soil conditioners, you won’t have to wait long for success in your greenhouse or bed, just make sure you use these products correctly and responsibly.

Unless otherwise instructed, we at Nord Agri prefer to use a complex approach when producing our premium quality substrates. And the reason is simple – mixing fertilizers and and soil amendments together, results are so much better! For example, applying fertilizer on top of poorly managed soil with compacted earth won’t do a magic, just because the nutrients will simply drain away. Such soil cannot absorb moisture if it is compacted; that is why soil amendments are needed. Once the soil is amended, plants will make better use of the fertilizers.

Chemical fertilizers vs Organic fertilizers

Important aspect to look at, when talking about fertilizers specifically, is the difference between organic and chemical fertilizers. Both types of fertilizers have certain situations where they shine, and both feature the same three primary nutrients: nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium, often indicated as an “NPK” ratio. While both contain nutrients needed for plants to grow, natural fertilizer contains smaller amounts of nutrients than chemical and chemical fertilizer does not contain the additional organic matter and microorganisms that organic fertilizer does. At the most basic level, chemical fertilizers feed the plant, and organic fertilizers feed the soil. But as you may understand, it’s a little more complicated than that.

Chemical fertilizers

When choosing the right fertilizer for your garden both organic and chemical fertilizers can be used, but the organic option will always be at the top of our recommendation list. Organic fertilizers stimulate soil life, improves soil texture and nurtures fertility in the long run. But in case you need immediate results, you may need to feed your crops with chemical fertilizers while adding organic fertilizer blends to improve soils health over time. Chemical fertilizers facilitate precise agriculture by allowing crop input suppliers to tailor fertilizer products that contain nutrient profiles specifically tailored to precise field nutritional requirements.

In Peat we trust!

Fertilizers – food for your plants.

Substrate is a vital source for any plant, after all through the roots plants receive moisture and nutrients which are needed for their growth and development. Therefore, the selection of the seeding substrate should be approached carefully.

Ideal seeding material

Traditionally, substrates are usually divided into two main types: soil-based and peat-based. As a substrate constituent, peat is superior to any other material.

Peat has a high water holding capacity (approx. 65% in volume). This helps to provide adequate water and water-soluble nutrients to the roots.

It also has a high air-holding capacity (approx. 30% in volume). A high air porosity allows plant roots to develop and grow well.

Peat contains beneficial microbes which help to prevent fungal diseases. Beneficial microorganisms in peat help to cycle nutrients through the substrate and have good nutritional effects for the plants.

It is environment friendly product, therefore suitable for growing organic veggies and fruits.

Peat substrates are easy to use. Ready-to-use peat mixes which do not need any special preparation are available now.

Unlike the soil-based substrate, which is heavy, peat-based substrate has a low bulk density and is easily compressible. This makes it very fuel-efficient for transportation over long distances, which helps to keep your transportation costs low.

Correctly chosen peat substrate is a key

Peat substrates consist of various components and its mixture depends on the purpose – desired yield. Such substrates may consist of different peat types, sand, soil and other additives. The quality requirements for black soil and garden soil substrates are not as high as for peat substrates, so you have to be very careful choosing it, especially when buying from unknown producer. Choosing Nord Agri you choose the best quality and performing substrates.

When looking for a peat substrates, a few important things should be taken into consideration.

Firstly, the acidity level or pH. Cucumber, bean or cabbage seedlings need an alkaline substrate with a pH of 6-7. For growing tomato seedlings, more acidic peat is allowed – from pH 5.8. Some flowers need even more acidic peat – pH 5.3. The cheapest is unprocessed peat, but it is suitable only for true acid lovers – rhododendrons, blueberries, garden azaleas. Other plants cannot be planted in it.

Secondly, the structure of a substrate mix. It affects the amount of support plants’ roots receive, it affects the water retention, and it determines how well your plants can take up air, water and nutrients. To ensure optimal plant production and superb growing conditions in each climate regions, Nord Agri offers large variety of substrate’s fraction starting from extra coarse (20-40 mm) and ending with extra fine (0-5 mm). In most cases, choosing an extra fine fraction substrate with a pH of 5.5-6.5 you can not go wrong.

And thirdly, valuable additives substrates contain. A peat substrate with a humidifier is always a good choice, as it is easier to water it and keep evenly moist – plants will thank you! Microbiological additives balance the good and not-so-good soil microorganisms, so the seeds are better protected against the rot.

In Peat we trust!

It all starts with a seed! And a proper substrate.

Christmas flowers are native to Mexico and are named after Joel Roberts Poinsette, the first U.S. Ambassador to Mexico and U.S. Congressman. The poinsettia flower was discovered during his voyage to Mexico around Christmas and afterwards presented to Americans. Since then, poinsettia, also known as the Christmas Star flower, has been the main Christmas plant all over the world. In the UK the poinsettia has become the UK’s number one houseplant over the winter holiday season with over eight million plants sold every year!

Worth mentioning

Although red poinsettias are the most popular and the best-selling of all, thanks to the hard work of breeders over the past decades, more than 150 different varieties have been created, including beautiful pinks, oranges, creams and whites. People who buy these festive plants most likely do not even know that to manage the flowering of poinsettias and achieve flowering just for Christmas time, greenhouses should be prepared from the end of September.

This indoor flower blooms towards the end of the long night period and therefore, it is necessary to artificially increase the nights to 14-15 hours from the beginning of autumn. To do this, the plant is covered at night for 8 weeks with a dark cap and kept in the dark for 14 hours. It is important not to block the access of air. During the day, poinsettias need to provide normal lighting. Without these actions the poinsettia will bloom towards the end of winter. Yes, poinsettias are not easy to grow, but with significant practice and the elimination of a few common mistakes, poinsettia production can become a great source of joy and revenue.

Soil – the basis of your success

Nord Agri is your partner when it comes to the production of best quality poinsettias. Growing poinsettia in the professional floriculture industry requires even more care, scheduling and timing than other cultures. Nord Agri’s high quality control guarantees that your holiday plants will have identical physical and chemical characteristics from one load of mix to another, ensuring a remarkably uniform product.

Poinsettias are particular about their soil. Different plant species have different requirements for moisture retention, temperature, and other qualities. So, choosing the right soil is the first step in ensuring any plant thrives in its environment.

In most cases poinsettia appreciates loose, well-draining soil with a neutral to slightly acidic pH from 5.5 to 7.0. The key is to find a balance of adequate drainage and plenty of moisture. Soil choice is crucial for any plant’s health. The right soil delivers everything from moisture and oxygen to humic and fulvic acids. Soil also works as an anchor for your plants, giving them a sturdy place to establish roots and grow strong.

This plant loves peat-based soil because it provides drainage while retaining enough water to keep its roots happy. If you prefer not to make your own mix, your poinsettias will enjoy Nordi Agri’s pre-made soil mix HORTIFLOR – premium flower substrate specifically for this plant. This substrate has adjusted pH level and necessary additives for healthy and strong flowers, adapted fertilization level, additional perlite for increased aeration and water retention, and additional clay for improved humidity and nutrient efficiency.

If you are using the wrong soil mix for your poinsettias, you may notice one or more of the following signs:

Leaves droop or wilt

Leaves and bracts fall off

Leaves turn yellow

The plant develops root rot

With high-quality peat moss and other ingredients, HORTIFLOR professional growing mix is designed to maximize your business results. Nord Agri helps you produce the best quality poinsettia possible.

What else matters?

Watering

Poinsettia requires abundant watering. But at the same time, it is necessary to monitor the condition of the soil. The water temperature should be several degrees warmer than the air temperature in the room. From cold water, the plant can shed its leaves. Water during irrigation should saturate the substrate, pass through the drainage, and its excess should come out of the hole in the pot. In no case should the roots be allowed to be constantly in the water.

Spraying

Twice a day, it is necessary to spray the air around the plant, increasing its humidity, thereby creating the conditions of native tropical forests. At the same time, it is not desirable to get on the leaves, they can become stained. In March, spraying should be stopped for a dormant period, but around May with the beginning of the growth of new shoots, spraying may be resumed. The frequency depends on humidity and air temperature. On hot days, spraying should be carried out more often, on cool days without it at all.

The Christmas star has a fairly strong immunity, although she is quite demanding and capricious.

Feeding

Poinsettia plants can not fed during the flowering period and during the dormant period, that is the reason why long-acting fertilizers are added to the soil mixture when transplanting. Also, in spring and summer and in autumn, before flowering, the poinsettia is fed with a complex soluble fertilizer 2-3 times a month.

If you have concluded that you are not using the right and possibly the best type of substrate for your poinsettias, Nord Agri professionals will help in finding the right mixture for you or even develop a unique recipe depending on your needs. All substrates can be customized with adjusted fertilization, pH and wetting agent levels to achieve the highest growing results.

Stars fall around Christmas. Poinsettia.

As Nord Agri offers clients a wide range of varieties of bags, including 250L, 300L and 6000L bales, the preparation of the products is very important. When opening up the bags, there are many things and practices to consider. For superb product performance and extraction of all the product characteristics and benefits, you should follow our recommendations!

Prior to usage, the compacted substrate from the large bags of 250L and 300L sizes and Big Bales must be carefully released to ensure that the peat’s structure is not disrupted. This is especially true for coarse-structured substrates, as excessive loosening or mixing can destroy the coarseness and cause the structure to become too fine for its intended use.

High-speed mixers and the force of grinding and mixing equipment are extremely damaging to peat.

The grower must select an appropriate machine to properly release the compacted peat. To physically dislodge the material on a clean concrete surface, a fork or broad shovel is recommended.

As the peat moss is highly compressed with our special machinery in our factories, the most important aspect is the release and loosening process of the peat moss products. With improved aeration and mixed product, your plants will perform better, increasing the growing results, better root structure and continuous performance of the substrates or other peat products!

How to prepare the peat for usage?

Each peat bog produces different peat, and preparing the peat bog before harvest is very important. There are many factors that influence the type, the quality, and the color of the peat. Here is the information about the differences between White and Black peat so you can choose the right one for you.

Peat is categorized by the Von Post Scale which shows the decomposition level of peat moss. White peat is harvested from the top and the youngest layers of the peat bog. Black peat is harvested from deeper layers of the peat bog and is older more decomposed peat. Below you can see the main characteristics of Black & White peat moss.

We at Nord Agri are more than happy to help you choose the right peat or proportion for you.

White peat vs. Black peat

Quite often our customers and clients ask us about the differences between the Baltic Peat harvesting types. Here we have explained the differences as well as the reasons, why we should choose one or the other. Here are some of the differences between the peat types as well as advantages of using particular type of peat.

MILLED PEAT

When harvesting milled peat it requires milling a few centimetres of the peat fields, which are levelled and drained beforehand. The loosened layer is turned repeatedly. The dry, loose peat is then pulled or shoved together into a small pile and afterwards vacuum harvesters collect and transport it to larger stockpiles.

Although milled peat is cheaper to harvest than block peat, it generally has a larger amount of fine granulation.

BLOCK PEAT

Block Peat refers to the machine extraction of peat blocks by white peat cutting machines. The peat blocks or sods must dry in the field for at least one year in order to reduce the moisture content from 90% to about 40-60%. In the factory we slice the peat blocks and sieve into various fractions!

Usually, block peat is u in coarser products, with larger fractions. Ensuring more air in the substrates and natural peat products, block peat allows greater air and water retention for most demanding plants. Better root development and access to valuable vitamins and minerals from the additives in the Nord Agri substrates.

Additionally, with the recently installed block peat cutting machine, Nord Agri can ensure almost perfect block peat fractions, with homogenous and ideal peat moss pieces – in the needed fractions and sizes!

Block peat and milled peat

Clients often complain that after opening the packing there is fungus on the peat surface and smell is weird. What are the reasons and what to do?

MOLD

Pure peat has up to 98% of organic matter concentration and frequently the fungi are drawn to organic stuff. To make peat a growing medium, it is almost always treated with lime and fertilisers. These chemicals improve microorganisms’ life circumstances and improve growing conditions for the plants.

At this stage, saprophytic fungi (and bacteria) living on dead plant material, as well as airborne spores that are constantly present in the environment, might infiltrate the peat. Substrate packagings with fungal growth should be opened and thoroughly mixed to allow for as much aeration as feasible. The fungal mycelium immediately collapses after aeration. Because the fungi are solely saprophytic, the fungal mycelium causes no damage to the crop.

Fungal growth on substrate surfaces is created by high humidity and damp circumstances and is typically caused by airborne spores. As a result, all preventive and therapeutic treatments should aim to produce a drier environment and guarantee proper aeration of plants and substrate. Implement a dry crop cultivation to enable the substrate’s surface to dry. Reduce the relative humidity within the greenhouse if at all feasible. There is no effective fungicide on the market for saprophytic fungus.

Fungicides have almost no effect on soil, and it does not influence the product quality! Remember to aerate and mix the product thoroughly!

SMELL

It is possible that odor will arise in compressed peat products. This is possible after a lengthy journey in unfavourable hot weather conditions. The odor is similar to rotting eggs or ammoniac. It is a symptom of anaerobic microbiological activity in the compressed substrate and is aided by high temperatures and low oxygen levels.

Smell is difficult to avoid and examine since it is influenced by a variety of factors, including:

Microbiological life in peat

Temperature during shipping

Cargo lead times

Storage conditions after arrival

So far, not much is known about the exact mechanisms, although it is predicted that biological activities of bacteria induce nitrate and sulphate reduction. As a result, there is a stench and, in certain cases, a reduction in accessible nitrate nitrogen in the substrate.

This is not to say that the substrate is of poor quality. Often the substrate can be utilized without restriction if the following preparations are taken prior to use:

If items exhibit fungus or odor, the substrate should be removed promptly to allow the material to aerate. Existing gases can disperse, and oxygen returns to the substrate, halting the activities. If feasible, keep in bulk for a day or two and turn at regular intervals. During aeration, the odor can dissipate.

Mold or smell in peat moss? Don’t worry!

Peat Bog types and characteristics

Each peat bog is different and peat moss harvested from it will also vary. There are many different peat bog types depending on the location, climate and other factors. Just to mention a few: Valley, Raised, Blanket, Quaking bog, Cataract bog – there are many more!

Peat bogs can also be classified by the nutrient content available: Eutrophic bog, Mesotrophic bog, and Oligotrophic bog.

The most valued characteristics of peat moss are stable structure, variety in coarseness, sterility, and the ability to increase the soil’s capacity to retain moisture and enrich the soil.

Such quality peat is harvested only from the young top layers of a well-established raised peat bog H1-H4. For a really good quality peat moss and superior structure, very important is the content of sphagnum peat moss in the fauna in and around the bog.

As sphagnum peat content creates strong uniformity in the peat structure making its characteristics much better than Blanket bog or Fen bog peat, where high grass, humidity, and other material content do not contribute to peat structure and effectiveness so much.

Surely there are uses for darker, more humid almost black peat from Fen bogs or Blanket bogs, but it is limited and will never be able to provide what a good structure white peat can do. As historically this was the most used type of peat due to availability and difficulties with preparing high raised bogs and harvesting young peat, it is time to leave the past behind and realize the power of white peat.

Preparations before harvesting

Another very important note is how the peat bog has been prepared for harvest!

A quality process of preparing peat bog for harvest would take at least 3 years and you need to make sure you get rid of as much wood and root material as possible. Many producers try to skip or cut these steps, as it is massive money and time investment. Resulting in a mediocre quality product.

Also, a big role in the quality and purity of peat moss plays the harvesting, processing, and screening equipment.

SO PLEASE KEEP IN MIND ALL PEAT IS DIFFERENT, PRODUCERS ARE DIFFERENT, AND PEAT MOSS QUALITY IS ALSO VERY DIFFERENT. EVEN IF THE BOGS ARE LOCATED NEAR TO EACH OTHER.

PLEASE KNOW – When working with Nord Agri, you can be SURE that:

Nord Agri peat moss is harvested in a responsible way to nature

Our High Raised peat bogs are very carefully prepared prior to harvest

Our processing and harvesting equipment is at the top of the line.

We pay great attention to detail and a sustainable vision of our and your future.

You always get the best of the best quality.

Peat bog types, differences and harvest

In October 2026, Nordagri representatives visited Japan. The aim of the trip was to find distribution partners interested in bringing our peat substrates and biostimulant products to the Japanese market.

Product import was one of the key topics for our team, especially for biostimulants, where registration requirements need careful preparation. Japan is a market where a clear route to registration matters as much as product quality.

The first contacts were made in December 2025 at the World Biostimulants Congress in Barcelona, where we met a professor from a Tokyo university specializing in agriculture and technology. He invited us to visit the university when in Asia and offered support in testing our products and bringing them to Japan. During the visit, our team met representatives of the university and agreed on trials to demonstrate the efficiency of our biostimulants under Japanese conditions.

Our next step is to prepare for J-AGRI, the exhibition in Japan where we plan to present Nordagri peat substrates and biostimulants and meet potential distribution partners. Before the exhibition, we aim to complete the first product tests and move forward with the registration process, so that sales can begin without delay once a suitable partner is found. Nordagri will keep sharing updates on the Japanese market. If you are a distributor or grower in Japan and would like to connect, write to sales@nordagri.com.

Nordagri Visits Japan: Building Partnerships for Peat Substrates and Biostimulants

Two weeks is a long time to spend on the road, and our colleague Pāvels Kaupers used every day of it. Between 4 and 16 May 2026, he split his time between Romania and Greece, combining a close look at one specific crop with a broader round of client meetings.

The Romanian leg of the trip was built around blueberries. Pāvels visited growers at a stage when this year’s crop decisions were still being made, and it’s one thing to talk about fertigation schedules and soil amendments over a spreadsheet, quite another to stand between the rows and see how the bushes are actually responding. Growers compared notes on bud development, on water management going into the warmer months, and in more than one conversation on how Hortimed Humus biostimulant has been performing when worked into their existing programmes.

In Greece, the focus shifted. Rather than one crop, the days there were spent meeting a wider range of Nordagri clients, reviewing how the season is shaping up for each of them and picking up on where our support could be more useful going forward. Hortimed Humus came up here too, this time as clients asked how it might fit alongside what they’re already using.

It was a demanding two weeks, but exactly the kind of trip that keeps us close to both the specialist growers and the broader client base. Thank you to everyone in Romania and Greece who made time for Pāvels.

Two Countries, One Trip: Nordagri Visits Romania and Greece

Some trips are about opening new doors; others are about keeping existing ones open. Raitis Švāģeris’s visit to the Czech Republic from 21 to 24 April 2026 was firmly the latter — four days dedicated to sitting down with Nordagri clients, reviewing how the current season is shaping up, and making sure nothing gets lost between one order and the next.

It’s a short trip on paper, but a full one in practice: several client meetings back to back, a fair amount of driving between them, and a lot of listening. Product performance, delivery timing, and — almost inevitably — a mention of our Hortimed Humus biostimulant came up as clients shared what they’ve been testing this spring.

These regular check-ins are a quiet but essential part of how Nordagri works with its partners. Our thanks go to all the clients who made time to meet with Raitis during this visit.

Checking In with Our Czech Clients

Hortiflorexpo IPM Beijing 2026 is behind us — and it was three days well spent. We returned to Beijing with our full product range, reconnected with long-standing partners across Asia, and had substantive conversations with growers and distributors who are raising the bar for their growing inputs. Here is what we brought, what we heard, and what it means for growers in the region.

What growers in Asia gain from working with Nordagri

Professional growers always bring us the same core question: can we rely on this product to perform the same way, crop after crop, season after season? Yes — and our established network of distribution partners across China, Southeast Asia, South Korea, and Japan proves it.

At IPM Beijing 2026, we showcased three product areas that give growers a measurable advantage:

Baltic peat moss — the foundation of consistent crop performance

Sourced from the Sphagnum bogs of Latvia. Our Baltic peat moss delivers something large-scale growers cannot compromise on: predictability. Its fibrous structure maintains a stable water-to-air ratio throughout the full crop cycle. As a result, growers gain uniform rooting, fewer irrigation variables, and less guesswork at every stage of production.

Moreover, growers who switch from lower-quality alternatives consistently report more uniform germination, stronger root development, and fewer losses during transplanting. Batch-to-batch consistency — documented and guaranteed — means crop protocols work the same way every time.

Professional peat substrates — ready to perform from day one

We engineer our professional substrate range for commercial greenhouse production — vegetable crops, ornamentals, and propagation — under real growing conditions. Each formula targets specific pH, EC, structure, and moisture parameters, so growers spend less time adjusting and more time producing.

For distribution partners, the benefit is equally clear. A ready-to-use substrate with consistent technical specifications simplifies supply chain management and customer support. No surprises. No reformulating mid-season.

Hortimed Product Line – professional biostimulants for growers raising their standard

Hortimed, Nordagri’s professional Sapropel based Biostimulant line, is gaining strong traction across Asia — and for a straightforward reason. Growers face growing pressure to produce more, with fewer chemical inputs, to a higher and more consistent standard.

Hortimed actively supports root development, stress tolerance, and nutrient uptake efficiency in greenhouse crops. It works alongside a grower’s existing substrate and irrigation programme rather than against it. Furthermore, as pesticide regulations tighten in China, Japan, and South Korea, biostimulants are shifting from optional to essential for serious operations.

In practice, growers who add Hortimed to their programmes report improved stress recovery, stronger root systems, and better nutrient use. These gains show up in the crop — and in the bottom line.

The Asian horticulture market: what we see on the ground

China’s professional greenhouse sector ranks among the most dynamic in the world. From large-scale tomato and pepper producers in Shandong, Hebei, and Liaoning to ornamental specialists in Yunnan and Guangdong, growers across the country are investing in input quality as a direct route to crop consistency and market competitiveness.

Equally, the same shift drives markets across Southeast Asia, South Korea, and Japan. Export-oriented greenhouse operations now demand substrate performance, documented quality, and supply reliability that matches international standards. Growers who get this right build a real competitive edge — both domestically and in export markets.

Nordagri has been part of this market for years. Consequently, our partnerships rest on long-term supply relationships, hands-on technical support, and the consistency that lets partners grow their businesses with confidence.

Questions we answer every day — for growers across Asia

Why do professional growers choose Baltic peat moss over other origins?

Baltic Sphagnum peat forms in cold climates with slow organic decomposition. This process preserves its fibrous structure and produces a naturally high air-to-water ratio, low and stable pH, and minimal contamination risk. For high-value or large-scale production, that structural integrity directly cuts variability — in rooting, irrigation, and final yield.

Can Nordagri supply peat substrates and biostimulants to China and other Asian markets?

Yes — and we already do. Nordagri maintains established supply relationships with importers, distributors, and direct buyers across China, Vietnam, Thailand, South Korea, and Japan. Our team manages international logistics and supports partners through import documentation and local requirements. If you are sourcing Baltic peat, professional growing substrates, or Hortimed biostimulants in Asia, we are ready to talk.

What is Hortimed and which crops does it support?

Hortimed is Nordagri’s professional biostimulant range for greenhouse and protected cultivation. It suits vegetable crops — tomato, pepper, and cucumber — as well as ornamentals and propagation programmes. Designed for direct integration into existing growing protocols, it improves results without disrupting established crop management practices.

Nordagri at Hortiflorexpo IPM Beijing 2026

Few crops present a starker contrast to the fields our team is used to than palm trees grown under the Saudi sun. From 3 to 9 April 2026, Roberts Leitāns travelled to Saudi Arabia to meet with palm tree growers and see first-hand how cultivation looks in a climate defined by heat, sandy soils, and very different water constraints.

The conversations focused on what growers are dealing with season to season — irrigation efficiency, soil structure, and how to get more resilience out of limited organic matter. It’s exactly the kind of environment where a biostimulant like our Hortimed Humus tends to come up in discussion, and it did, as growers asked how it might fit into their existing root-care routines.

It was a demanding trip in every sense, but a valuable one — a reminder of how differently our products need to be understood depending on where in the world they’re being used. Thank you to the growers who welcomed Roberts and shared their experience so openly.

Important and positive step in the development of our group

Some trips are about opening new doors; others are about keeping existing ones open. Stanislavs’s visit to Milan, Italy, from 17. of February to 21. of February 2026 was firmly the former — a chance to attend My Plant & Garden, one of the sector’s key trade exhibitions, and see where the industry is heading next.

It’s a short trip on paper, but a full one in practice: stand after stand of new products, packaging concepts, and cultivation solutions, plenty of conversations with exhibitors and fellow visitors, and a lot of walking. Trends in biostimulants, substrate innovation, and — almost inevitably — comparisons to our own Hortimed Humus came up more than once as Stanislavs took stock of what the market is offering this year.

Exhibitions like this are a quiet but essential part of how Nordagri stays ahead of where the industry is going. Our thanks go to everyone Stanislavs spoke with at My Plant & Garden.

Nordagri Visits My Plant & Garden Exhibition in Milan

IPM 2026 is underway — and Nordagri’s stand at Hall 3, Booth 43 has been busy from day one. We’re meeting partners, distributors, and professional growers from across the industry, and one topic keeps coming up: how to get more consistent performance out of peat-based substrates without overhauling an entire growing program.

What growers and distributors gain from working with Nordagri

Professional growers and substrate producers ask us the same question at every show: does this actually make a measurable difference at scale? With Hortimed, the answer is yes — and that’s exactly what’s driving the conversations at our booth this year.

Hortimed additive — engineered to upgrade peat substrate performance

Hortimed is Nordagri’s innovative additive for peat products, designed to improve substrate performance and support healthier plant growth from the earliest stages of cultivation. Rather than replacing a grower’s existing programme, it’s built to work within it — integrating into established peat and substrate formulations to lift structure, consistency, and plant response without adding complexity.

For professional growers, that translates into more predictable rooting and stronger, healthier growth across a crop cycle. For distributors and substrate producers, it means a value-added product that differentiates their offering — a peat solution that performs better, backed by a partner who stands behind the formulation.

Why this matters at IPM 2026

IPM brings together substrate producers, distributors, and growers from across Europe and beyond, all looking for the same thing: inputs that hold up to scrutiny and deliver consistent results season after season. As standards rise and margins tighten, the additives and biostimulants built into a substrate matter more than ever — they’re often the difference between an average crop and a standout one.

That’s exactly the conversation we’re having at Hall 3, Booth 43 — cooperation opportunities, product solutions, and supply possibilities tailored to what each partner’s market actually needs.

Nordagri is getting a new look in 2024!

Starting January 1st, 2024 and continuing for an indefinite period, there will be an additional fee applied to exports originating from European ports and destined for the Far East and Middle East.

This fee, known as the Contingency Adjustment Charge (CAC), has been introduced by the shipping companies due to the recent developments in the Red Sea which have led to the temporary suspension of transit via the Suez Canal. Currently, vessels are being rerouted via the Cape of Good Hope.

It’s important to note that this change in route will result in increased shipping costs and extended shipping times.

We want to assure you that we are actively monitoring the current situation and will notify you as soon as the fee is canceled. For any inquiries or assistance, please feel free to contact us at sales@nordagri.com. Our team is here to address any questions or concerns you may have.

FAQs & Answers

What will happen to my shipment if it was originally planned to transit through the Suez Canal?
Response: Shipping lines have either redirected or temporarily halted vessels bound for the Red Sea. Expect delays in cargo delivery for those rerouted through the Cape of Good Hope.

How do I find the latest ship schedule and information on my cargo’s delivery time?
Response: Connect with our logistics department for real-time updates on your shipment. For current cargo details and vessel schedules, use cargo tracking and ship tracking.

Is there a specific timeline for ships to resume transit through the Suez Canal?
Response: The timeline depends on ensuring the safety of the crew, cargo, and the vessel.

How can I determine if my shipment will be rerouted through the Cape of Good Hope?
Response: We consistently update information to provide customers with the latest details. Refer to online ship tracking for the most recent ship schedule.

I’ve booked shipments for the Red Sea region; what will happen to them?
Response: Given the current circumstances, expect a slight delay in cargo delivery. Shipments may be unloaded at a nearby safe port until the situation stabilizes.

Will there be additional costs for my shipments due to the service interruption?
Response: In collaboration with shipping lines, we’ll keep customers informed about alternative shipping options. Currently, shipping lines are implementing a premium Contingency Adjustment Charge (CAC) applicable to all shipments from Europe to the Far and Middle East, effective January 1.
