SPHAGNUM PEAT MOSS

Milled Peat

Milled Peat harvesting processes require milling a few centimeters of the peat fields, which are leveled and drained beforehand. The loosened layer is turned repeatedly. The dry, loose peat is then pulled or shoved together into a small pile and afterwards vacuum harvesters collect and transport it to larger stockpiles.

Nord Agri offers a large variety of milled peat fractions, ranging from extra fine (0-5mm) to extra coarse fractions (40-100mm).

Block Peat

Block Peat refers to the machine extraction of peat blocks by white peat cutting machines.

The peat blocks or sods must dry in the field for at least one year to reduce the moisture content from 90% to about 40-60%. In the factory, the peat blocks are sliced and sieved into various fractions. Block peat in substrates and growing media ensures homogenous structure, and improved water and air retention capabilities.

Mostly, block peat is used in coarse substrates, for highest value plants with the most demanding levels in growing and production.

Block Peat

Black Peat

Black peat is the oldest and deepest layer in the peat bogs that have been formed for thousands of years. The degradation of the bog with increased pressure from the upper layers, lead to an increased moisture, compaction, and weight of the material. Black peat is an important material for our substrates and growing media, to increase the overall moisture, weight, and humidity level with additional black peat. Black peat can be added in our substrates for increased humidity, moisture, and darkness of the product.

FERTILISERS (Chemical NPK, Organic NPK)

Chemical NPK with micronutrients

Chemical NPK (18-10-20 or 14-16-18) with micronutrients. For all substrates and potting soils, we add (Yara® branded) NPK fertilizer with micronutrients. It is an all-in-one fertilizer for Nord Agri potting soils for all the needed levels of Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P) and Potassium (K). For each product type we have specific levels of added fertilization. With experience and tests throughout the years, for each plant type and growing solutions, we have specific amounts of NPK fertilizer added! It is also possible to customize the fertilizer amounts added to any product, per customer request!

Organic NPK

Nord Agri organic NPK (DCM Eco Mix 4 (7-7-10)) is an organic potting soil NPK fertiliser mix, balanced and approved for use in organic cultivation. Continuous and even growth thanks to a long operating time, ideal for leafy vegetables, fruiting vegetables, pot plants, lawns and grass sports fields.

·      Gentle medium to long term nutrient release

·      Easy available organic phosphorus for a good root formation

·      Improves the microbiological activity of the substrate

·      Suitable for leafy vegetables, herbs and fruity vegetables

Additional Fertilizers

Wetting agent

By adding wetting agent you improve the uptake of water during initial wetting stage and optimises the water retention and movement in the substrate which improves the re-wetting of over-dry plants. Additionally, it helps to spread water more easily and evenly in peat. It does not affect the the total water uptake and does need extra water, if the wetting agent is added.

Slow release fertilizer (LDZ®)

Slow-release fertilizer in the Nord Agri substrates provide a steady supply of plant nutrients over an extended period after the production of substrate and in the first months after planting. They contain plant nutrients (mostly nitrogen(N)) in a form that delays their initial availability and ensure great results after the product is shipped to the customer in any place in the world. With added slow-release fertilizer, we are providing a sustainable and continuous Nitrogen supply for up to 6 months. We add our Slow-release fertilizers for ALL substrates, growing media and potting soil products.

Slow release fertilizer (LDZ®)

Micronutrient fertilizer (Radigen®)

Slow-release micronutrient fertilizer Radigen provides all the necessary and essential micronutrients in the correct balance for quality plants and is widely used in professional horticulture. It provides a long-term source of micronutrients ensuring successful production of ALL plants (potting, cut, young plants, seedlings, bedding plants, etc.). Similarly, as the slow-release fertilizer LDZ, we add Radigen for ALL substrates, growing media and potting soil products.

Additional additives

Perlite

Perlite is a widely known material that is manufactured from naturally occurring hydrated volcanic rock (perlite). Perlite is commonly mixed into substrates, potting soil products and growing media to improve the flow-ability, increase the air content and improve the water uptake. With Nord Agri, it is optional to add perlite in various amounts in the substrates.

Perlite

Wood Fibre

Wood Fibre is an additive that is continuously increasing in popularity for many of Nord Agri clients. With increased regulations in some countries, more clients choose our substrates with added wood fibre. Wood fibre itself is very light and easily mixable with peat, reducing overall product weight, increasing aeration in growing media and decreasing the logistics costs.

Wood Fibre

Clay

Clay is an optional additive that has a high ability to bind water as well some nutrients. It therefore influences the water characteristics of the substrates and growing media. It can also partly act as a nutrient buffer, making it possible to add more fertilizer without reaching to high salinity levels. Clay is mostly used for products with additional fertilization and for demanding plants with very high production value.

Sapropel Gold

Sapropel Gold is a new and improved special additive for Nord Agri! It is a unique natural resource that has been accumulating for thousands of years in the Nordic climate region in anaerobic conditions. Here are the main values:

  • Natural Wetting Agent – Sapropel Gold improves water and nutrients absorption capacity in growing media
  • Improved Nutrient Uptake – Sapropel Gold increases the buffer capacity of the growing media and balances variation of salt contents
  • Rich source of nutrients – Sapropel Gold contains natural humic complex with humic, fulvic and amino acids that stimulate the growth of plants
  • Works as plant food – Sapropel Gold is excellent food for beneficial bacteria
